Welcome, New Consortium Leader
The Milwaukee Health Care Partnership’s (MHCP) Leadership Council recently welcomed a new member, Dr. Deborah Costakos.
The MHCP Leadership Council is the oversight body of the MHCP consortium, responsible for the input, approval, and monitoring of the MHCP plan priorities and activities, and the consortium policies, procedures, membership, and structure. Its members include the senior-most executives of the four Milwaukee-based health systems, the Medical College of Wisconsin, the five Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), and state, county, and city health agency directors. Deborah Costakos, MD, MS, is Dean of the School of Medicine & Professor of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. After five years in private practice, Dr. Costakos joined the MCW faculty in 2009 as a pediatric ophthalmologist and later as the medical director of pediatric ophthalmology. Dr. Costakos became Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences in 2019. She was appointed to her current role in 2024. Dr. Costakos served on several institutional leadership committees, including the MCP Compensation Committee – Chair; the F&MCW Finance and Ops Committee; the Senior Clinical Leadership Committee; and the Medical College Physicians Practice Committee.
Dr. Costakos attended the Ohio State University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. She obtained her Master of Science in Genetic Counseling from the University of South Carolina. Dr. Costakos obtained her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and she completed a residency and fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences.
